Hello.

My name is Richie and this is my portfolio site.

I learn about the interweb and other stuff at MMU.

(this site is still under construction so my apologies for any broken links etc. I'll sort it all out when I get the time.)

So you want to know about me!!

Me and my wife Catherine on our wedding day

My name is Richie Coss and I am Web Development student at Manchester Metropolitan University. That is me on the right with my lovely wife Catherine on our wedding day last August.

Accessible web design is a passion of mine. This is probably the main reason that I'm at uni I suppose. Before I went to Man Met I lived in Australia for a number of years where I worked as a welder/fabricator. (After school I qualified as a Metal Fabricator after a four year apprenticeship.)

In my spare time I used to tinker about on Photoshop and Dreamweaver and the more I learned the more hooked I became. I couldn't get enough of the stuff. So when my then girlfriend (now wife) and I decided to move to Manchester we thought it was a good idea for me to head to uni to pursue it more. It was just luck that Man Met had a Web Development course at the time and after a few interviews I was accepted onto the course to do a BSc (Hons) in Web Development and have never looked back. I continue to learn more and more interesting stuff by the week from our great lecturers.

Me playing gaelic football in the league final '09

I am currently working for a great design agency Frank Design Ltd. While working here under the tutelage of Simon and Alex I feel my skills have come along to such an extent that I would be very comfortable taking on any development job working from a PSD right up to the back end PHP stuff

In my spare time while not tinkering about on my sites or learning more about both front end and back end web development I play a lot of gaelic football for Man Met, Oisins my club in Manchester and for Lancashire the county team. I also play soccer for a local pub team O'Sheas on a Sunday. The standard of this is a bit dodgy as is the way with Sunday league soccer but it keeps me active in the gaelic football off season.

This site is fully web standards compliant and incorporates some PHP and Javascript elements as well as some of the newer CSS3 elements. My blog is built on the Codeigniter framework. I used to use Wordpress but found it a pain to us and I prefered to have more control over it than was possible with Wordpress. All of the graphics done on the sites are my own work usually done using Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks.

If any of the above hasn't put you off you can get in touch with my by mailing me at richie.coss@redroosterwebdesign.com. If the above has caused you any rage or discomfort you can still get in touch with me at the same address. I am always open to suggestions about how to improve my work and life.

Feel Free to get in touch
